What we’re doing for the environment

Posted on April 9, 2023

Farmers get a really bad press when its comes to what they’re doing for the environment. So, I wanted to share what we’re doing so you can see for yourself, we’re actually working WITH not against the environment.

🐃 Grass fed beef

British grass fed beef is among the most sustainably produced meat in the world. The way we rear our beef doesn’t require us to buy in ANY supplementary feeds. We rear them on a diverse grass based diet (more info to follow in a seperate post) and grow everything ourselves, therefore we aren’t relying on lorries transporting our cow feed. We also manage the entire farm to fork process, so we can rear our beef with the most minimal miles. It’s actually food metres, not miles! Read more about the benefits of grass fed beef here.

🚜 Our farm

Our farm is entirely grass and legume based which is well known for absorbing carbon. As part of the Gloucestershire County Council estate, we are continually working towards how we can be carbon neutral. This aligns with our beef production perfectly!

🛍 Our shop

Our shop has automatic lights which switch on when they sense your presence. We’re also looking into solar panels to provide all of the electricity for our shop. Eco cups are available for the coffee machine and reusable, washable glass bottles are available for the milk vending machine. The vast majority of the stock in our shop is local and we even use a Gloucestershire based abattoir and butchers to process our meat, keeping it all as local as we can. We also support other sustainable producers, for example the crisp packets are 100% compostable!

⚘ Wild flowers

We have a number of wild flower plots and margins on our farm which provide important habitat and foraging sites for wild pollinators such as bees and butterflies and farmland birds such as the yellowhammer.

🐦 Winter bird food

Our farm offers winter supplementary feeding for birds, providing them with additional food over the late winter months when the natural seeds are in short supply.

We really work WITH not against the environment. So please be so mindful who and what you listen to.

Thanks for all of your support!
